IndexDirectory

Download - version 3.2

Creates HTML indexes of directories on your computer, so that you can view them in a browser, or publish them to the internet

Need to mock-up a website structure? Need to index your reports, documents, downloads, or music with HTML files? Need to create a photo-album? How about one with thumbnail pics? Or with page-per-photo? How about stylesheet support, so you can change the whole layout in one go? How about easy-to-navigate directory structures? Directory names in the title of each page, and clear links to the subdirectories? How about trying a free 1.5Mb download, with source-code included so you can change the program yourself? Runs on MS-Windows 98 series.

New features in this version

Support for descriptions of each file: - You can now describe each file using an automatically-generated system of text files in the .descriptions directory

Support for stylesheets - The 'page style' option has been replaced by proper CSS stylesheets. One is generated in the folder you index, and all subdirectory indexes refer to it.

Check for clashing filenames - you can run a check to see if any filenames will be overwritten before you start (i.e. do a search for 'index.html' files in your directory

Improved help file - Help documents accessible from within the program, or use any text-editor.

Support, help, mods

If you want a feature added to the program that doesn't already exist, two options:

1: Edit the program yourself, or hire someone else to do so. If you'd like your changes incorporated into the main distribution, please email them to indexdirectory.questions@blibbleblobble.co.uk ... Be sure to read the GPL carefully!

2: Ask for changes: Send a suitable donation to the EFF and email me ( indexdirectory.questions@blibbleblobble.co.uk ) with the changes you'd like, attaching a copy of EFF's thankyou email.

Perl version

I have also written a version of this program in perl, which has the advantage of listing files and directories in alphabetical order, rather than in random order. The perl version is currently limited to listing all files (i.e. no file filters or thumbnail pics), but comes with full source-code under a GPL license if you want to modify it to suit your exact requirements.
